The Attack on Zara was a diversion for the Crusaders as they needed to pay the Venetians for the transport vessels they had built for them at great lengths for them. The Venetians had halted their economy for the construction of 50 war gallons and 300 transport ships. The Crusaders could not pay the Venetians in full so insead they told the Crusaders that if they reclaimed Zara for them the debt would be repayed. The Crusaders attacked Zara with Denz de Bayle and Esteban Noviembre in their ranks.
